Evaluation of Early Systems Archival page
An integral part of the mission of the Center for Computational Sciences
(CCS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory
(ORNL) is to provide state-of-the-art
computing resources for Department of Energy
(DOE) computational Grand
Challenges. To accomplish this mission requires both research and development
in support of efficient use of the current computational resources and
evaluation of promising new computer architectures that may represent the
next generation of CCS computing.
Evaluation of Early Systems (EES) is a CCS project targeted to meet these
needs.
The EES project has two primary responsibilities.
The first is the study of new and experimental computer systems, evaluating
their suitability for Grand Challenge application codes
and providing feedback to machine architects, software designers, and
application programmers. The other responsibility is supporting
the activities of the CCS by
- helping bring CCS computer systems into production,
- identifying the most efficient approaches, and potential bottlenecks,
to porting and running the Grand Challenge application codes on the CCS
computer systems, and by
- advising the director of the CCS in his planning for the future.
The project is made up of five
activities:
